The character of Prince Eric in the 2023 live-action adaptation of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” is portrayed by English actor Jonah Andre Hauer-King12.
Hauer-King was born on 30 May 1995 in Islington, London. His mother is Debra Hauer, an American psycho-therapist and former theatre producer originally from Walnut Creek, California, and his father is Jeremy King, a prominent London restaurateur originally from Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. Hauer-King was raised Jewish, and his maternal grandparents were Polish Jews who fled Warsaw for Toronto in the 1930s2.
Hauer-King’s educational background is quite distinguished. He attended Eton College, one of the UK’s most prestigious schools, and later studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a first-class degree in theology and religious studies. Remarkably, he managed to juggle acting roles on stage and screen while pursuing his studies2.
He began his acting career while studying at Cambridge. His first feature role was in Danny Huston’s “The Last Photograph,” which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He went on to play Laurie in the 2017 BBC version of “Little Women,” and starred as Andrius Aras in the film “Ashes in the Snow” (2018), Paul Wilcox in “Howard’s End,” and as David in “Postcards from London” (2018). He also starred as Lucas in the film “A Dog’s Way Home” (2019). His other roles include “The Song of Names” and “This Is the Night.” His most recent role before “The Little Mermaid” was playing Harry Chase in the BBC World War II drama “World on Fire” (2019). On 12 November 2019, it was announced that Hauer-King would play Prince Eric in “The Little Mermaid,” which was released on 26 May 20232.
